Adopt Children

Did you know that the Church has the power to fix the orphan crisis in America? It’s true! There are currently 428,000 children in foster care in the United States. Of these, it is estimated that 120,000 are eligible for adoption. With over 400,000 US churches, if just one person from every church would say, “I’ll take one,” then every child would have a home.

Sadly, this is not happening. Each year, thousands of children are turning 18 and aging out of foster care without ever finding a forever family. The statistics for these young adults are heartbreaking:

  • One in four will experience homelessness, mental health challenges, and/or substance abuse

  • Nearly one in four will be arrested

  • Nearly half will not complete high school

  • Young women are 2.5 times more likely to become pregnant by 19

In the state of Pennsylvania, between 13,000 and 15,000 children are currently in foster care. More than 8,000 of them are 13 and older. We believe that it’s not too late for these kids, and that we can work together to solve the problem and bring them hope for a bright future.

We will do this by:

  • Encouraging people from Faith Church to welcome children into their homes and provide a safe, loving place for them to learn and grow

  • Loving birth parents by offering resources, counseling, and care to help them successfully parent their children if that is their desire

  • Supporting foster and adoptive families in the church with practical help and a network of care so that they know they aren’t in it alone

  • Providing training and resources to foster and adoptive families and those who work with children in all capacities

  • Equipping our Faith Kids and Faith Students staff and volunteers to care well for children and teens who have been through trauma and instability, making our church a welcoming place for them.

Our crazy goal (but why not!?) is that we would see a day when the list of children in the Lehigh Valley waiting for their forever home is empty - because there is not a single child who is unwanted, unloved, or parentless. Here’s how you can get involved:

Are you willing to open your home to a child or children? There are three main needs:

  • Foster a child or children until they are able to be reunited with their birth parents.

  • Foster a child or children until they are released for adoption.

  • Adopt a child or children who are waiting for their forever families.

Our goal is to provide every foster or adoptive family with a team of five other families around them to serve as a support group for prayer, encouragement, and practical help. If you know someone who is considering fostering or adopting, you can step forward to be one of these support people for them.

If you don't directly know any foster or adoptive families, you can still help! Here are some of the needs:

  • Prayer support

  • Free babysitting

  • Respite care (must be willing to get training and clearances)

  • Rides

  • Meals

  • Check-ins

  • Gas gift cards

  • Encouragement

  • Tutoring

  • Material needs - car seats, clothing, cribs, etc.

  • Shopping

  • Hosting a baby shower
